FURIA beat MIBR in DreamHack Masters Spring to spoil trk's debut

The ESL One Road To Rio runners-up began their campaign in the online tournament on the right foot as they took down their Brazilian rivals in a two-map series.

It was business as usual for FURIA, who extended their flawless record against MIBR to 7-0 (with five of those matches being series) with a solid all-round performance in a match where they always appeared to be in full control. Even with star player Kaike "⁠KSCERATO⁠" Cerato having an off day, the world No.9 team had more than enough firepower to dispatch their rivals, who were playing their first official match since removing Ignacio "⁠meyern⁠" Meyer from the starting lineup.

All eyes were on Alencar "⁠trk⁠" Rossato, and the former TeamOne member was barely noticeable in the series, especially on Train, where it was role player Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo leading the charge for the team, which is never a good sign. MIBR looked off the pace for the majority of the match and will now have just two days to get up to speed before Friday's crucial match against Chaos, who are riding the wave after stunning Liquid on Tuesday.

FURIA came out on Vertigo looking determined to extend their winning streak on the map as they raced to a 5-0 lead on the offense. MIBR then finally found a footing in the game as they won two rounds in a row, the second of which thanks to a quad-kill by Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo, but their respite was only momentary as they ended up being limited to four rounds in the half despite a strong showing from their veteran in-game leader, who had 16 kills to his name.

FURIA were unwilling to take pity on their Brazilian rivals and took the pistol round with a timely flank on the A ramp, with Vinicius "⁠VINI⁠" Figueiredo getting three kills to his name with the Dual Berettas - a sign of the confidence that was rippling through the team. MIBR responded once they had money to work with and put some rounds together, but it wouldn't take long for FURIA to reach hit map point.

With the game seemingly under control, Andrei "⁠arT⁠" Piovezan's troops began to play safe, often saving weapons instead of going for risky retakes with a low percentage of success. MIBR closed the gap with a series of rounds before Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles put the game away with a quick quad-kill with an AWP.

Train began almost in the same manner as the previous map, with FURIA on the front foot from the offset. Down 5-1, MIBR picked up the pace and ended the half chasing with six rounds to their name, but they were certainly kicking themselves for wasting the chance to get ahead late in the half after letting VINI get three USP kills on top of the train cars.

MIBR looked a different side after switching to the defense and kept FURIA's players at bay for considerable spells in the second half, bringing the deficit to a minimum. It looked like the series would go the full distance as FURIA were struggling to string rounds together, but then a quad-kill from Yuri "⁠yuurih⁠" Santos on a force buy breathed new life into the team and took them over the finish line.
